The 7-day Machame Route, also known as the “Whiskey Route,” is one of the most scenic and popular trails on Mount Kilimanjaro. After registration at Machame Gate, begin trekking through dense rainforest alive with monkeys, tropical birds, and lush vegetation. The well-maintained trail gradually ascends until you reach Machame Camp in the late afternoon.

Leave the rainforest and enter the heather and moorland zone. The trail climbs steep ridges with stunning views before leveling out on the Shira Plateau, one of Kilimanjaro’s most beautiful high-altitude areas.

Climb gradually to the Lava Tower for acclimatization, where lunch is served. Then descend through the beautiful Barranco Valley, known as the “Garden of the Senecios,” before reaching camp.

Begin with the exciting scramble up the Barranco Wall, which offers dramatic views. The trail continues with ups and downs across valleys and ridges before arriving at Karanga Camp.

A short but steep climb leads to Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit attempt. Rest in the afternoon and have an early dinner before preparing for the midnight ascent.

Begin the summit climb at midnight under the starry sky. Reach Stella Point at sunrise and continue to Uhuru Peak, Africa’s highest point. After photos and celebrations, descend to Barafu for a short rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp.

A gentle descent takes you back through the rainforest, alive with bird calls and lush greenery. At Mweka Gate, receive your summit certificate before transfer back to Moshi/Arusha.
