FULL ITINERARY

Day 1: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp

Your Kilimanjaro adventure begins at the Londorossi Gate, where you’ll complete the necessary park registrations. After a short drive to the trailhead, your trek takes you through the lush rainforest. This day offers an easy introduction, covering a distance of approximately 6 kilometers. Your first overnight stop is at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp, situated at an elevation of about 2,750 meters.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

The trail continues through the rainforest, leading you to the moorland zone. The terrain becomes more rugged, and the flora changes. The hike is about 8 kilometers and brings you to Shira 1 Camp, positioned at an altitude of around 3,505 meters. The day’s trek offers breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro’s volcanic formations.

Day 3: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

You’ll trek to Shira 2 Camp, situated at approximately 3,850 meters. This segment of the journey is relatively short, covering about 7 kilometers. The landscape evolves into an alpine desert, providing a unique and captivating setting. As you gain altitude, you’ll notice the effects of the thinner air.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Today, you’ll climb to Lava Tower, reaching an altitude of approximately 4,600 meters. This high point aids in acclimatization before descending to Barranco Camp, located at about 3,960 meters. The day’s journey covers a total distance of roughly 10 kilometers. The Barranco Wall climb is a highlight, adding an exciting challenge to your trek.

Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

Your journey continues with an ascent to the Karanga Camp, positioned at an altitude of about 4,035 meters. The day’s trek is approximately 4 kilometers long and offers fantastic panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. The terrain is alpine and rocky, marking the transition to higher altitudes.

Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

You’ll make your way to the Barafu Camp, the last stop before the summit attempt. The campsite is situated at an elevation of about 4,600 meters and is your base for summit day. This day’s trek is around 3 kilometers and provides an opportunity for rest and preparation.

Day 7: Summit Day – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and back to Mweka Camp

This is the most challenging and rewarding day of your trek. Your summit attempt begins in the early hours with a steep and strenuous ascent to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, just before sunrise. After celebrating your achievement, you’ll descend to Mweka Camp, nestled at an altitude of approximately 3,100 meters. This is a long and demanding day, covering a total distance of roughly 18 kilometers.

Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

The final day of your trek takes you from the Mweka Camp to the Mweka Gate. You’ll descend through the lush rainforest zone, covering about 10 kilometers and passing through vibrant vegetation. Upon reaching the Mweka Gate, you’ll receive your summit certificates and bid farewell to your dedicated guides and porters.
